Simulink PLC Coder incorporates structured text generation for OMRON PLCs

MathWorks today announced that Simulink PLC Coder You can now generate IEC 61131-3 structured text for programmable logic controllers (PLCs) from OMRON. This breakthrough enables teams of industrial automation engineers to adopt the model-based design for Omron PLC controlled power generation and manufacturing equipment, including the new sysmac studio from OMRON.

OMRON Sysmac Studio is a single software platform that configures, programs and monitors automation systems. Sysmac Studio supports the machine automation controller of the NJ series, allowing efficient control of machinery through a single connection. Engineers using OMRON PLCs can now automatically generate code from Simulink for supervisory and closed-loop control applications. Automatic code generation, an integral part of design based
in models, it helps eliminate errors associated with traditional manual code generation and reduces overall development and validation times.

"With Simulink PLC Coder's support for Sysmac Studio, we anticipate significant benefits for OMRON customers who have embraced Model-Based Design," said Yasutugu Namura, Director, Business Development Department No. 2, Control Division from OMRON. “Engineers can now use Simulink PLC Coder to generate code from Simulink models, speeding up the design process and improving
performance of OMRON PLC controlled equipment.”

“We are excited about our collaboration with OMRON to facilitate a streamlined development process that enables engineers to develop advanced control algorithms using Simulink that will increase accuracy and optimize machine performance,” said Takumi Tohyama, Director of Marketing for OMRON. Machinery and Industrial Automation sector of MathWorks in Japan.
