This work shows the development of a battery charger for the automotive industry that covers a wide spectrum of charging capacities. To reduce the size and weight, a half-bridge forward switched DC/DC converter is used. The supervision and control of the system is carried out through a PIC type microcontroller in such a way that a reduction in the necessary circuitry is obtained. The use of a microprocessed system allows different types of load adapting to each situation by program. The final result is a charger that is small in size, robust and much more efficient than a conventional charger, by using a switched converter.
