Advantech Launches Configurable DeviceOn Module to Dramatically Reduce Wireless Sensor Development Time

Advantech

The robust and energy efficient WISE-XNUMX-DOM module is delivered ready to use right out of the box, with no programming required.

Advantech Europe today launches the WISE-XNUMX-DOM DeviceOn Module, a new certified wireless module for instant connectivity between sensors and the cloud, delivered in a robust, industry-standard form factor and is now available ready to use without programming.

The DeviceOn Module family of modules is an out-of-the-box combination of smart device hardware and firmware modules, enabling rapid deployment of custom or semi-custom sensors.

The fields of employment are virtually endless: This modular approach to smart sensor solutions means that sensor OEMs can focus on their core business around sensing technology, while taking advantage of Advantech's capabilities in transformation and transfer of data.

Potential applications include cold chain or refrigerator control, smart waste management, asset tracking, smart farming, and smart public lighting.

The WISE-2-DOM DeviceOn Module is a 4mm × 4mm MXNUMX.COM compliant module containing a wireless modem, MHFXNUMX antenna connector, Arm® Cortex®-MXNUMX processor, and multiple I/O interfaces S for sensors. The module is ready for use on standard or custom Advantech carrier boards, while wireless connectivity and sensor interfaces can be easily configured via a user interface.

With WISE-XNUMX-DOM, sensor designers can easily integrate long-range LoRaWAN® connectivity into their devices. The module consumes little power in transmit and receive modes, and has a deep sleep mode that draws only XNUMX µA. Variations compatible with NB-IoT/LTE-M cellular, Bluetooth®, Wi-Fi® and other standards will soon be available.

Advantech's WISE-DeviceOn firmware is already integrated. The DeviceOn firmware stack provides all the software functionality required to interface with a wide range of supported sensors, allowing for active sensor configuration such as names and thresholds, sensor and event handling, such as data caching. Multiple interfaces are given for sensor and I/O control, including a UART (optional), GPIO, 4-channel ADC, PWM, SPI, and also I2C. Configuration or firmware updates can be done simply via USB.

DeviceOn's server layer can be hosted on any platform, Advantech provides default integrations for Microsoft Azure and WISE-PaaS/EnSaaS (Advantech's cloud platform) and also interfaces to other cloud platforms such as Google or AWS, as local support, either using your IT infrastructure or Advantech's specific DeviceOn server hardware.

Advantech also offers a selection of 3 compatible DeviceOn Module sensor boards that help speed sensor development. These are the DOM-SB-uno board for temperature, humidity and lighting detection, the DOM-SB-three that combines a lighting sensor with a proximity sensor and time-of-flight range, and the DOM- SB-four for the detection of air quality and lighting.

An evaluation kit is available in 3 configurations so you can get up and running with no additional hardware required; an alternative with only boards, the boards with a casing, or the boards with a casing and a LoRaWAN WISE-100-EXNUMX-A gateway that allows scalability of up to one hundred nodes.

If you require project and design support to customize your sensor solution, Advantech offers state-of-the-art design and manufacturing services to suit individual demands, managed locally by our European design centers and teams.
