New Version of Melexis Pump/Fan Driver ICs Raise Lifetime Limits to the Next Level

The automotive dedicated pump supervisor meets the requirements of high ambient temperatures and long service life.

With the intention of facing the most demanding developments of service customers, Melexis has expanded its MLX90412 product offering. The latest version of this automotive capable XNUMXA fan/pump supervisor IC is optimized to deal with high ambient temperature levels and supports long lifespan.

Melexis, a global microelectronics engineering company, introduces the MLX90412GLW Single Coil Pump/Fan IC with integrated supervisor stage. It is intended for applications with a high ambient temperature, such as vehicle water pumps. The MLX90412GLW drives pumps of up to fifteen W in internal combustion engines (ICE). This generally implies a maximum operating ambient temperature of up to 135℃. While water pumps up to 20W can be activated in the maximum 85℃ ambient temperature of electric cars (EVs).

The MLX90412GLW is qualified to meet the increasing demand for service life. This reaches up to fifteen,000 hours for EV applications, such as battery cooling.

The MLX90412GLW, an automotive 1-coil motor supervisor, includes all of the new generation protections. Hall sensor based 1 coil water pumps are well known for their solid starting performance.

With the MLX90412GLW, pump manufacturers can offer a complete portfolio of water pump solutions. It can be configured to a range of BLDC switching options, from perfect sine wave mode, offering the lowest noise performance, ideal for electric cars, to perfect low-EMI mode, for ON/OFF applications requiring minimal of external EMI filter components.
In addition to this, the MLX90412GLW can operate basic 2-wire pumps with ON/OFF functionality. It can also run variable speed pumps via a PWM interface with diagnostic feedback on a 4-wire pump. Finally, it can be complemented with the Melexis MLX81113 LIN MCU gateway to operate LIN-based 3-wire water pumps.

The high degree of integration of the MLX90412GLW requires a much smaller number of external components than traditional solutions available on the market today. Prototyping is lightning fast thanks to the user interface that allows you to configure all the free options. Complete development can be done without the need for any motor control software, allowing for fast validation and time to market with a minimum of engineering resources.
