The new Arduino WiFi board is now available at RS

Arduino Yún creates an open source design environment for “Internet of Things” applications
RS Components already has the new Arduino Yún in stock. This board is the first in a new range of wireless products that integrate the open source architecture of Arduino with Linux.
Arduino “Yún”, which means “cloud” in Chinese, combines the existing Arduino Leonardo board, based on the 32-bit Atmel ATmega4u8 microcontroller, with an integrated Atheros AR933 WiFi support (SoC) using Linino, an OpenWRT variant of MIPS GNU/Linux. The main feature of Arduino Yún is its Bridge library, which allows easy navigation in complex web services that use RAM-based text formats such as XML, delegating all network connections and HTTP transaction processing to the Linux-based one.
Like the Arduino Leonardo, Yún has 14 digital input/output pins, seven pulse width modulation (PWM) channels, and 12 analog inputs. It also features a 16 MHz crystal oscillator and a microUSB connector, plus a standard USB Type-A connection and a PoE-compatible microSD card connector for additional storage. Once the Yún is powered on for the first time, it works as a WiFi access point, creating a WiFi network called an “Arduino”. The board can then be configured by assigning a name and password to the WiFi network.
Jon Boxall, Global Head of Semiconductors at RS Components, commented: “Yún is an important addition to the Arduino range, for anyone looking to develop interactive objects and environments. It is ideal for emerging Internet of Things applications, opening the doors to a whole host of open source application and design opportunities that were previously out of reach using existing Arduino boards.”
The new Arduino Yún, as well as the rest of the Arduino family products, are available for delivery in 24/48 hours on RS Online, together with a wide range of extension boards.
