Arduino Yun Mini Development Board

This new version of Arduino offers a compact and very affordable WIFI solution for prototyping

RS Components has strengthened its range of open source development boards and Arduino prototyping boards with the new Arduino Yun Mini.

Designed primarily for engineers, hackers, hobbyists, and students, the Arduino Yun Mini is an adaptation of the wireless Arduino Yun microcontroller board and has been redesigned for use with bradboards, making prototyping easier, as well as being very lightweight and presenting a really compact format.

The Yun Mini's approximate PCB dimensions are 71.1mm x 22.9mm, less than half the size of the Arduino Yun's PCB, which measures approximately 68.6mm x 53.3mm with a USB connector extending it to approximately 73mm. . Also, the weight of the Yun Mini is 16g, half the weight of the Arduino Yun. Its small plate size is ideal for use in small spaces and especially for home automation projects, where placing smaller devices in small boxes can improve installation flexibility.

Yun Mini offers an affordable breadboard PCB with an ATmega32u4 microcontroller and Qualcomm Atheros AR9331 soc IC with a MIPS 24K CPU, operating up to 400 MHz and supporting the OpenWRT-based Linux distribution called Linino. A bridge library allows communication between the two processors, giving Arduino programs the ability to execute shell scripts, communicate with network interfaces, and receive information from the AR9331 processor.

The board has built-in WiFi (IEEE 802.11b/g/n operation up to 150 Mbps) and supports 20 digital input/output pins, 7 of which can be used as PWM outputs and 12 as analog inputs. Other featured features include; a 16 MHz crystal oscillator, a micro-USB connector, an ICSP header, two reset buttons and a user button.

The Arduino Yun Mini is similar to the Arduino Leonardo, in that the ATmega32u4 has built-in USB communication, eliminating the need for a secondary processor, allowing the Yun Mini to connect to a computer like a keyboard or mouse, as well as a serial port. /virtual COM (CDC).

Yun Mini can be customized through 3 available accessories: dogRJ45, dogUSB and dogUSB eMMC. The dogRJ45 is a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Port; dogUSB is a USB type A connector with a USB 2.0 hub that has a mini SD slot to expand the board's memory; and the dogUSB eMMC is a USB Type A port with a built-in 4 GB Flash.

The board can be powered by micro-USB connection with 5 V DC, which is usually a recommended option. However, a regulated 5 V DC can also be used to connect the board via the Vin pin. Yun Mini can be programmed with Arduino software that can be downloaded at arduino.org/downloads or with Linino IO from www.linino.org.
