Melexis introduces the MLX81346

A single-chip LIN pre-controller for high power up to 2000 W. The MLX81346 enables miniaturization of motor control and efficient silent drive with Field Oriented Control (FOC).

It is targeted at automotive mechatronic applications such as oil pumps, engine cooling fans, and BLDC positioning actuators. The device is also used in robotic systems, electric bicycles and scooters.

In addition to being able to support up to 1.000 W operation on 12 V supply, the MLX81346 is uniquely positioned to achieve 2.000 W on 48 V supply. Its high-voltage capabilities come from silicon-on-insulator technology ( SOI) on which it is based.

It features an embedded 16-bit microcontroller unit (MCU), 64KB flash memory, plus a LIN software stack and LIN interface (for connecting to the vehicle's network infrastructure). It has 12 GPIOs, including 3 high-voltage I/Os, 2 UARTs, SPI, and I2C.

Customers can perform fast end-of-line programming via the LIN pin with the support of third parties recommended by Melexis.

The MLX81346 takes up minimal board space. It can be supplied in 32-pin QFN (5mm x 5mm) or 48-pin TQFP48 (7mm x 7mm) packages. This compact pre-controller has been developed as an SEooC (security element out of context) with ASIL B capability. It supports an operating temperature range from -40°C to 150°C. It also incorporates all essential circuit protection functions.

“The MLX8146 completes our third generation of embedded controllers. The family now includes the MLX81330 and MLX81332 LIN controllers for 1..10 W applications, and the MLX81340, MLX81344 and MLX81346 LIN pre-controllers for 10..2000 W applications,” says Marc Lambrechts, Product Line Manager. of embedded motor controllers. “With the MLX81346, Melexis is the first company to bring to market a fully embedded 48V System-on-Chip (SoC) pre-controller. It helps our customers in the automotive and robotics industry to develop compact solutions.”
