Reduce the cost of the measurement system thanks to the new and robust Compact-DAQ controller

The 4-slot CompactDAQ controller packs an Intel Atom processor and high-precision measurements in a small, affordable package.

NI has announced the 4-slot CompactDAQ controller. By integrating the processor, signal conditioning, and I/O into a single CompactDAQ system, engineers and scientists can reduce total system cost and complexity while increasing measurement accuracy. Integrated measurement systems reduce the number of components, connections, and cabling that are required, which often introduce additional noise and costs, to ensure high-precision measurements and cost-optimized systems.

“Because the CompactDAQ controller is a stand-alone device, there's no money to spend on an additional computer, signal conditioning, or cabling,” said Ryan Ewart, mechatronics engineer at Yanos Aerospace. “By using the CompactDAQ platform, we have reduced system complexity, cost, and installation time.”

The CompactDAQ controller features an Intel Atom dual-core processor that can run either Windows Embedded 7, which is the industry standard, or NI Linux Real-Time for maximum system reliability. By linking industry-standard operating system options with LabVIEW system design software, customers can easily port LabVIEW code from existing measurement systems to these new CompactDAQ controllers. Engineers and scientists can combine LabVIEW and more than 60 sensor-specific I/O modules for use with CompactDAQ to quickly customize data acquisition systems to meet specific application needs.

“We've designed this next-generation CompactDAQ controller based on feedback from customers, making it smaller, less expensive, and more robust,” said Stefanie Breyer, NI director of data acquisition R&D. "By leveraging the latest Intel Atom 3800 processor inside the controller, our customers can deploy powerful processing power combined with high-precision measurements anywhere."

Key features

• Integrated Intel Atom Dual-Core Processor: Reduces the cost of the system and allows it to be moved anywhere thanks to having an integrated processor within the measurement system.

• SD memory stick storage: Forget the limits of data storage with storage in SD memory cards that can be hot-swappable.

• Integrated CAN/LIN port: Reduce costs by taking advantage of the built-in CAN/LIN port.

• 4-Slot C-Series Module – Mix and match various types of I/O, including AI, AO, and DIO to meet specific application needs.

• Robust form factor: Take measurements in high shock and vibration environments, as well as temperatures between -40°C and 70°C.
