Omron's new subminiature microswitches offer the smallest footprint solution on the market and can be operated from a variety of angles in a sliding contact IP67 package.

Omron Electronic Components Europe has expanded its portfolio of sealed microswitches with new devices that provide the smallest solution on the market and allow operation from various angles in IP67 housing and sliding contact.

The new D2EW sealed microswitches, characterized by their extremely small size of 8,3 x 7,0 x 5,3mm, allow customers flexibility in their applications and lower costs by eliminating the need for a lever. Compared to existing microswitches, its innovative plunger shape allows operation at a large angle between vertical and horizontal. This reduces play in the cam position and improves operating position tolerance.

The D2EW design incorporates an asymmetrical left-right peg which reduces the risk of incorrect mounting, thus reducing the need for rework and additional quality checks. Its sliding contact structure guarantees silent operation.

Another advantage of the new D2EW microswitch is a reduction of the applicable minimum load to 50 µA which makes it easier to design energy saving applications. Durability can reach 300.000 operations minimum to allow applications with longer life. These new microswitches are supplied in normally open and normally closed versions, all of them with the possibility of choosing between welded terminals or push-in terminals.

Its applications are very numerous and range from autonomous vehicles and robots to automatic vending machines, smart meters, fast charging stations for electric vehicles, industrial automation equipment, security, refrigeration and air conditioning systems, to name just a few. This wide range of potential applications is aided by their IP67 rating, making them suitable for humid and dusty environments. For example, they can be used to detect the water level in washing machines and alarm buttons, as well as to eliminate problems caused by dust and humidity in locks, card readers and portable printers. The new switches admit a relative humidity of up to 95% and operating temperatures from -40 to +85 °C.
