Qualcomm certifies Rohde & Schwarz signal generators and analyzers for O-RAN compliant 5G RAN platforms

The R&S SMW200A and R&S SMM100A vector signal generators and the R&S FSW and R&S FPS signal and spectrum analyzers from Rohde & Schwarz have been certified by Qualcomm to test the Qualcomm® QRU100 5G RAN platform, an architecture O-RAN compliant solution flexible network designed to facilitate scalable and cost-effective 5G network deployments. Original equipment manufacturers that offer Radio Units (RUs) for Open RAN infrastructures based on the Qualcomm QRU100 5G RAN platform can be sure that these Rohde & Schwarz solutions meet the test requirements in the frequency range below the 6 GHz needed to verify design and for production.

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. has certified several test solutions from Rohde & Schwarz in the latest version of the Qualcomm® Development Acceleration Resource Toolkit (QDART) to test the Qualcomm QRU100 5G RAN platform in the 5G NR FR1 frequency range. OEMs integrating the Qualcomm Technologies solution into their RU units can now rely on the R&S SMW200A and R&S SMM100A vector signal generators, and the R&S FSW and R&S FPS signal and spectrum analyzers during the verification test of design (DVT) and production tests.

The implementation of 5G networks with an infrastructure that responds to today's modern demands is associated with significant challenges, since it is increasingly difficult to achieve the right balance between high capacity, low latency and profitability. The Qualcomm QRU100 5G RAN platform is a modern, comprehensive RF modem solution that aims to address these challenges to help carriers and OEMs implement flexible networks through O-RAN compliant 5G solutions. The platform offers support for technologies ranging from millimeter wave, through Massive MIMO in the sub-6 GHz range with 64T64R capability, to 4T4R Remote Radio Heads (RRH) to increase network coverage, improve transmission speed of data in the perimeter of the cells and increase the global capacity of the network. Test and measurement equipment provider Rohde & Schwarz offers certified solutions for testing the Qualcomm QRU100 5G RAN platform. Certified test instruments include two vector signal generators, the R&S SMW200A and R&S SMM100A, and two signal and spectrum analyzers, the R&S FSW and R&S FPS. Depending on the application and budget, OEMs can combine the R&S SMW200A and R&S FSW or the R&S SMM100A and R&S FPS for a complete base station and small cell test solution with comprehensive automation.

The R&S SMW200A and R&S FSW form a state-of-the-art signal generator and analyzer pairing that is ideal for R&D applications. The R&S SMW200A is an advanced vector signal generator geared toward state-of-the-art applications such as base station and small cell design and verification. Its I/Q modulation bandwidth of up to 2 GHz spans fourth and fifth generation standards, such as 5G and LTE-Advanced, and versions of the IEEE802.11 standard, such as ac/ad/be. The R&S FSW is a high-performance spectrum and signal analyzer offering an internal analysis bandwidth of 8,3 GHz for measuring wideband modulated signals or frequency agile signals, such as those used in 5G NR. The R&S FSW can also measure several standards simultaneously, allowing signal interaction errors to be detected quickly.

The R&S SMM100A and the R&S FPS are the perfect match when looking for a good price-performance ratio. The R&S SMM100A is the only mid-range vector signal generator to offer millimeter wave test capabilities. It covers the bands used by current cellular standards, plus the bands for 5G NR FR1 and 5G NR FR2. In addition, it is perfectly equipped for future bandwidth requirements thanks to its internal baseband generator, which supports a maximum RF modulation bandwidth of 1 GHz. This signal generator is complemented by the R&S FPS, an analyzer extraordinarily fast and compact signal and spectrum processing. Its measurement routines have been optimized for speed and high data throughput, making it up to five times faster than comparable analyzers, primarily benefiting users in production environments.
