New low-end mixed-signal oscilloscope with exceptional features, R&S HMO1002

Fanless operation, 1MPts memory capacity and a real-time sampling rate of 1 GSa/s – these are the key features of the new R&S HMO1002 mixed-signal oscilloscope from Rohde & Schwarz. With a vertical sensitivity of 1 mV/div and an integrated FFT of 128 Kpoint, the equipment offers exceptional features for the price segment to which it belongs. In the field of embedded design, maintenance and education, users can already benefit from a wide variety of functions and features aimed at facilitating daily tasks.

The mixed-signal oscilloscopes of the R&S HMO1002 series, developed by the Rohde & Schwarz subsidiary HAMEG Instruments, can extend their bandwidth from 50 MHz to 70 MHz and even 100 MHz with a simple upgrade. HAMEG has just released this upgrade option for all its instruments, and now also for the R&S HMO1002 series. In addition, the R&S HMO1002 includes the function of mixed signals. Measuring analog and digital signals at the same time shouldn't be unusual for an oscilloscope today, however it is for a low-end test instrument. The fanless design of the R&S HMO1002 is another special feature that ensures quiet operation and minimizes the risk of failure. The oscilloscope's anti-glare display occupies nearly 40% of the front panel and is easy to read. Likewise, it is possible to connect a logic probe to the front panel.

Pattern generator for embedded design

An integrated pattern generator allows embedded design professionals to program protocol messages even at 50 Mbit/s. This makes it possible, for example, to check circuit components still under development. For the generated signal patterns, 2 kbit are available per channel. The 4-bit counter output (expandable up to 25 MHz) allows designers to use the pattern generator as a clock source. The high signal update rate of up to 10,000 wfs/s allows signal deviations to be measured with the highest precision. Pass/fail tests using masks are another useful feature for designers.

Integrated digital voltmeter and component tester for service technicians

The R&S HMO3 1002-digit digital voltmeter allows simultaneous voltage measurements on the two analog channels, with two parameters each. The digital component tester helps technicians check the operation of capacitors, inductors, and semiconductor elements quickly and easily.

Special functions for the education sector

For teachers, the educational mode of the R&S HMO1002 will be very interesting. All automatic analysis tools that measure up to 28 parameters of a signal (QuickView, auto set, auto measurement) are disabled in this mode. Those who try to circumvent this feature will not succeed. It is possible to activate the automatic measurement functions for a limited period of time; however, the results memory is emptied every time screen captures are taken, leaving manual measurements as the only way to access them. The equipment also labels the correctly measured screenshots, allowing the teacher to easily recognize them.

The R&S HMO1002 mixed-signal oscilloscope expands the family of Rohde & Schwarz Value Instruments, which includes a wide variety of high-quality measurement equipment in the low-price range.
