IAQ-core air quality sensor module

Sagitrón, AMS distributor for Spain and Portugal, presents the iAQ-core air quality sensor.

The IAQ-core is a sensor module that analyzes the air quality inside buildings (indoor Air Quality) by measuring the concentration of volatile organic compounds VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) such as odors, smoke, and biological emissions resulting from human activity. .

Contrary to humidity and temperature sensors, sensors to measure CO2 and VOCs in the air are usually expensive and often require complex algorithm processing. But Austria Micro Systems' iAQ-core is a small MEMS technology sensor module, with all the processing incorporated, communicating via I2C bus the detection of a wide range of oxygen-reducing gases such as CO2 and VOCs, so It allows implementing this type of monitoring in a very simple and low cost way.

The presence of this type of gas in the air is reported by the sensor as CO2 equivalent units (in ppm) and as total units of TVCOs volatile organic compounds (in ppb), giving electronic-based systems the ability to react to the presence of gases.

When the concentration of gases of this type reaches a certain pre-established threshold, the systems can automatically trigger activities such as increasing ventilation, sending messages, changing air flows, etc.

In addition to comfort and safety, this type of automation allows significant energy savings because it allows the ventilation systems to be activated only when they are needed.

These sensors can also be used to stabilize the concentration of perfumes in commercial areas, homes, gyms, etc.

The iAQ sensor also measures the CO2 concentration, by correlation to the VOCs:

These are some of the substances detected by the IAQ-core module:

Alcohols

Aldehydes

Aliphatic hydrocarbons

Amines

Organic acids

aromatic hydrocarbons

CO, CH4, LPG

ketones

Some application examples:

Automatic protection of excess CO2 in garages or tunnels.

Odor measurement in toilets for automatic activation of extractor fan.

Automatic ventilation control in kitchens.

Ventilation control in rooms enabled for smokers.

Maintenance of density of perfumes in the air in stores or commercial environments.

Air quality control in food factories or factories in general where air quality is critical.
