Rohde & Schwarz presents the new R&S NGC100 power supply series with cutting-edge features

ngc100 power supplies

The new R&S NGC100 series of power supplies offers a wide range of functions.

The new DC power supplies from Rohde & Schwarz are suitable for both manual use in general laboratory applications and automated applications and, even as entry-level instruments, offer a very wide range of functions. The R&S NGC100 series of power supplies includes single, dual and three channel models that supply up to 32V, 10A and 100W DC.

DC power supplies are indispensable in the electronics sector and satisfy a basic need, that of converting the voltage of an AC source, subject to possible voltage fluctuations and spikes, into a precise and stable DC voltage. The new R&S NGC100 series of power supplies not only meets this fundamental requirement, it also offers features, functions and remote control possibilities for applications much more complex than providing stable power output. The series includes one-, two- and three-channel models providing 0 to 32V per channel with output power up to 10A and 100W. The one-channel R&S NGC101 supplies up to 10A, the two-channel R&S NGC102 channels up to 5 A per channel and the three-channel R&S NGC103 up to 3 A per channel. Thanks to its compact design and reduced weight, two R&S NGC100 can be mounted side by side in a 19″ rack to minimize the space required in test setups.

On two- and three-channel models, the channels are fully isolated for maximum flexibility. The user can use them as completely independent and extraordinarily compact power supplies. The channels can also be connected in series to increase the maximum potential difference to 96 V or in parallel with currents up to 10 A. Thanks to their complete galvanic isolation, the channels can be connected to each other to power symmetrical circuits without having to worry about possible grounding problems.

The R&S NGC100 series offers excellent basic performance as a power supply, both in terms of range and output quality in relation to residual ripple and noise. The possible applications and additional functions exceed expectations for this class of instruments. The remote sensing function ensures accuracy by measuring the voltage at the input of the powered circuit and not at the output of the power supply. The user can also program voltage or current changes for a measurement sequence or avoid voltage surges to protect the device being tested or simulate certain operating conditions.

The R&S NGC100 series is committed to safety and offers a complete range of protection functions for electrical and thermal properties. The user can adjust the time and define sequences for channel activation. The voltage and current values of the supplied circuit can be recorded.

All R&S NGC100 series models feature a dual interface with USB and LAN ports and can optionally integrate a GPIB interface for remote control applications. For external control, a digital trigger provides input signals in TTL (transistor-to-transistor logic) format to activate functions such as data logging. It is also possible to introduce sequences of voltage or current changes using an external program. An analog interface for input voltages up to 10 V and currents up to 20 mA allows almost instantaneous modification of output voltage and current across the entire range.

The R&S NGC100 series of power supplies replaces the R&S HMC804x power supplies, either directly or for joint use. These devices are part of the R&S Essentials range, and are now available from Rohde & Schwarz and through authorized distributors.

Rohde & Schwarz will demonstrate the new R&S NGC100 series of power supplies at Embedded World on the company's stand 4-218 in Hall 4 of the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre.
