The fourth part of the Rohde & Schwarz Satellite Industry Day visionary series will take place on May 25, 2023 from 15:00 p.m. to 17:10 p.m. The virtual session includes a panel of industry experts and will focus on the European IRIS2 program and its role in developing a secure and resilient satellite communications infrastructure.

Europe is undergoing a digital transformation affecting business, industry, government and citizens, while facing potential geopolitical and cybersecurity challenges. In this context, the need for a space telecommunication system that is secure and resilient to respond to changing requirements is crystallizing. The European Commission has organized a call for tenders to award a contract to develop the IRIS2 system (Infrastructure for Resilience, Interconnectivity and Security by Satellite); a multi-orbit communications infrastructure whose objective is to provide satellite communications services to governments and commercial users.

In the fourth part of the Satellite Industry Day series, experts from Technology Vision Consulting, Euroconsult, STE iDirect Europe, GomSpace, the International Telecommunications Union and Rohde & Schwarz will meet to analyze the latest developments and applications in the field of space technology and of satellites.

Jean-Benoît Laithier, Euroconsult's main advisor for the satellite communications ecosystem, will present the IRIS2 program and its importance in creating a secure environment in future telecommunications in Europe.

Koen Willems, Vice President of EU Programs and Government Relations at ST Engineering iDirect, will examine EDF's European Protected Waveform (EPW) program, which focuses on agile, secure, affordable and interoperable satellite communications.

The nanosatellite revolution will be addressed by Lars Krogh Alminde, co-founder of GomSpace, who will discuss current innovations in orbits and software-defined technologies, artificial intelligence and satellite miniaturization.

Nelson Malaguti and Timur Kadyrov, from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), will focus their talk on the regulations governing non-geostationary satellite systems (non-GSO). In it they will present the regulatory changes applied after the World Radiocommunication Conference in 2019.

The day will be completed with a debate moderated by Thomas Wrede, founder and CEO of Technology Vision Consulting UG, in which all the experts will participate, and will include a live question and answer section.
