Omron Electronic Components Europe has announced a new ultra-rugged reflective photomicrosensor with a sensing distance of 4-3mm that fills a gap in the market for an SMD device targeting applications such as XNUMXD printers, mini-printers, electronic locks and industrial automation equipment.

Gabriele Fulco, Product Marketing Manager for Omron Sensors, said: “Increasing pressure on system size has led to a market trend for PMS solutions with conventional terminals to move to SMD, but there are a real need for a miniature device with an average sensing distance of 4-XNUMXmm. Our new device achieves a comparatively longer detection distance in a robust package thanks to its built-in lens.”

Omron's new EE-SY1201 reflective PMS measures just 3mm x 4mm x 2mm yet offers a maximum sensing distance of 3mm. Among its most frequent applications are the detection of the passage of paper in mini-printers, the rotation of the pin or the tube in electronic locks, the detection of passage in cutting machines and the rotation of the filament in 3D printers. It can also be used in industrial automation equipment and industrial cameras. For applications that require a shorter sensing distance of just 0,5mm, Omron offers the EE-SY1200.
