OMRON Electronic Components Europe today announced a novelty in its B5W series optical sensors. The new diffuse reflection B5W-DB sensor has a sensing distance of 550mm, longer than converging light sensors of the same size, making it ideal for COVID-safe user interfaces.

The OMRON B5W-DB stands out for being less affected by light disturbances and this makes it less susceptible to ambient light, such as sunlight. The sensor can be mounted in any of the 4 directions and its current consumption is extremely low as it reaches a maximum of 20mA.

The new diffuse reflection sensor opens up new applications in lavatory equipment, sterilization equipment and access control systems. Contactless sensors reduce the risk of infection, thus protecting against COVID and offering security to users of restrooms and other public spaces. They can also be used to activate security and door control systems, as well as to operate sterilization equipment and reduce the risk of contagion.

OMRON's B5W sensors are particularly effective at identifying black, transparent, reflective and generally hard-to-see surfaces, and the new range also improves performance in this area.

In addition to the B5W-DB, the B5W-LB2101 and LB2112 miniature sensors with analog or digital outputs and a sensing distance of 10-55mm for white paper reducing to 40-40mm for black paper are still available. These devices are 15,9 x eight with four x 5mm in size. For applications that require an even more compact solution, the super-miniature format B1112W-LB13 only measures 2 x 10 x 3mm. It offers a sensing distance of 8-50mm for white paper and XNUMX-XNUMXmm for black paper. All digital devices are supplied in a version with active output with and without light, and with an IPXNUMX sealing level.
