Farnell element14 introduces Metcal soldering station with Connection Validation™ technology to monitor joint quality and provide process traceability

Now Farnell element14 offers Metcal's CV-5200 Soldering Station which is one of the first to incorporate Metcal's patented Connection Validation™ technology to provide real-time, closed-loop feedback on intermetallic compound formation, a key indicator of the weld joint quality. The CV-5200 also incorporates a new communications port that allows the addition of process traceability software and firmware updates, ensuring the future of the investment.
It also guarantees time and cost savings, since once the system is installed, it does not need calibration. The CV-5200's Connection Validation technology, based on Metcal's SmartHeat™ supply-on-demand technology, assesses solder joint quality by calculating the formation of intermetallic compounds and providing closed-loop feedback to the operator via a light ring LED, integrated into the handpiece. When used with CV monitoring software, it helps users improve weld process traceability, as well as create a performance baseline to quickly analyze weld performance, identify changes in weld conditions, and Allow them to make changes to the process. “Connection Validation technology removes the risk associated with the variables involved in the soldering activity and removes the responsibility of the operator in determining the success or failure of a good solder joint,” said James McGregor, Head of Test and Tools for Premier. Farnell and Farnell element14, adding that “It supplements the operator's skill in judging weld joint quality by introducing an objective method of evaluating weld joint quality […] Consequently, this systematic and objective approach offers repeatability and a measurable standard for the welding process.
The CV-5200 soldering station incorporates chip-in-cartridge technology, which accurately calculates and displays the temperature of the tip. The High Thermal Demand (HTD) concept used in the CV-5200, based on a new handpiece and a selection of thermally efficient cartridges, makes the soldering station ideal for applications with high thermal loads, such as sheet metal. high density, without risking damage to sensitive components. The new unit features a 2,8” color touch screen with excellent graphics, an integrated power graph and net power meter, and an optional accurate temperature display. Metcal's CV-5200 soldering station is available from Farnell element14 in Europe, Newark element14 in North America and element14 in Asia Pacific.
