Li-Ion rechargeable batteries for wearables and IoT devices

rechargeable batteries

Ensuring reliability and safety, the SLB series models bring improvements in power and energy density to multiple applications.

Avnet Abacus announces the availability of VMS series small size rechargeable lithium ion (Li-Ion) batteries NICHICON CORPORATION.

The SLB series has been designed to respond to the growing demand for security and reliability in portable devices such as w and modules for Internet of Things projects (IoT).

benefiting from the SCiB technology, these batteries provide improvements in power and energy density, giving customers a great alternative where existing batteries and supercapacitors can only offer one advantage (power or energy density).

La fullfilment of security requirements This is an extremely important aspect when working with Li-Ion batteries, especially when used in body-worn devices. For this reason, SLB units eliminate the risk of fire or explosion. During safety tests, they were exposed to multiple extreme failure conditions, including crushing, piercing, external short circuit, overload, and discharge, without ignition or explosion.

These rechargeable batteries are also characterized by their long duration (more than 25.000 charge/discharge cycles at 10 °C) and their support of low temperatures (even -30 °).

Therefore, the SLB series is not only ideal for devices w and IoT, but can also be used in many other applications, such as wireless headphones, e-cigarettes, backup power supplies, stylus pen and toys.

Retrofit module for smart meters

As one of the best usage examples, AVNET Abacus has used these NICHICON batteries when designing a module retrofit that I could work with smart meters installed in the Netherlands and communicate using the latest wireless protocols and technologies.

And so, as a result of collaboration with twtg, AVNET Abacus engineering team overcame design challenges to provide an energy storage device that was small and powerful enough to last longer and deliver positive results to the end user.
