Traditionally, vector network analyzers have not been used to characterize the group delay of bent-pipe analog satellite transponders, although they offer significant advantages compared to spectrum analyzer-based methods. This is mainly because of the lack of access to the RF signals or the time bases of the local oscillators (LOs) of the transponder. This article describes a new way to measure the group delay of LO converters integrated with Agilent PNA and PNA-X network analyzers, enabling higher measurement speeds and significant accuracy improvements compared to traditional methods. .
