RS Components Introduces Major Electronic Design Innovations And Strengthens Leadership Position In Online Resources For The Global Engineering Community

Version 4.0 of DesignSpark PCB and ModelSource Component Library represents a major milestone in the evolution of high-functionality, free design tools: RS now offers a complete design and engineering solution

RS Components has introduced major new advancements in the company's improvement program to transform the search, design and buying experience for electronics engineers and purchasing professionals around the world. The latest news from RS's free technical solutions platform designed to support engineers throughout the electronic design process includes:

• Version 4.0 of DesignSpark, the award-winning PCB design tool, now with access to an industry-leading component library, PCB prototyping support and BOM quoting (request for quotes and orders);

• ModelSource, the only free source of PCB/schematic model libraries, all with embedded RS code, downloadable directly from DesignSpark, RS's online community for engineers.

Version 4.0 of DesignSpark PCB, the world's most powerful free electronic design software for PCB layout and schematic creation, now features a new library manager, which enhances the functionality of the tool's existing libraries by integrating with ModelSource, a unique new Online Component Library available for free as a standalone tool via the DesignSpark website

The ModelSource library contains more than 80.000 PCB schematics and models from the main manufacturers' references and is available for download in more than 20 different formats compatible with the most common PCB design software on the market. In addition, it contains more than 30.000 3D models in 24 software formats commonly used in mechanical 3D software.

Because the libraries are aligned with RS's product offering, engineers don't need to create basic design elements, spending this time on innovation, research, and development. A new Bill of Materials (BOM) request for quotation functionality integrated into DesignSpark PCB version 4.0 provides immediate sourcing of components in PCB design.

The tool automatically generates a report for the user from this BOM with the RS reference numbers used in the new PCB component libraries.

Another benefit of this new version is the addition of the PCB Quotation Service, which provides independent quote comparisons of a variety of PCB manufacturers based on engineer design specifications. He himself can continue with a direct service from the selected PCB subcontractor.

Developed by RS in conjunction with Number One Systems, DesignSpark PCB has attracted engineers from around the world to the RS website since its launch in July 2010, and the number of free downloads of schematic capture and PCB design software they have reached nearly 160.000. Version 4.0 of DesignSpark PCB and ModelSource are available at designspark.com, RS's online portal created to support engineers throughout the design process, bringing together design information, user reviews and blogs, and free tools, which today it has more than 90.000 registered members.

"Supporting innovation in electronic design is one of our business priorities, recognizing the importance of the time and effort invested by engineers to bring a product to market," said Mark Cundle, Technical Marketing Director.

Through our advanced e-commerce capabilities and our continued investment in evolving and updating our online tools and resources, we have made significant strides in accelerating the search, design, and purchase process for engineering and purchasing professionals around the world. ”
