High data rates meet precision in Microchip's new families of A/D converters

Main data:

  • Data rates up to 153,6 kSPS and compact package
  • 24-bit and 16-bit A/D converters improve system performance in high-precision applications
  • High programmable data transmission rates, high precision and less noise
  • Built-in features eliminate external components and reduce total system cost

Microchip announces a family of compact A/D converters that offer high programmable data rates of up to 153,6 kilosamples per second (kSPS). The MCP356x 24-bit and MCP346x 16-bit families of delta-sigma A/D converters offer higher programmable data rates than similar devices on the market, as well as high accuracy and lower noise. Supplied in tiny 20mm x 3mm UQFN-3 packages, these highly integrated A/D converters meet the growing demand for small packages in space-constrained applications such as portable instruments.
High-resolution delta-sigma A/D converters on the market typically have slower programmable data rates, on the order of a few kSPS. The MCP356x and MCP346x families offer much higher speeds, making these devices ideal for a variety of precision applications that require different data transmission rates, such as industrial process control, industrial automation, sensor transducers, and transmitters. The A/D converters also integrate features to eliminate the need for external components and reduce total system cost, including an internal oscillator, temperature sensor, and diagnostic power source.
The new families provide 24-bit or 16-bit resolution, two/four/eight single-ended channels or one/two/four differential channels, allowing developers to choose the most suitable A/D converter for their designs. These devices join Microchip's extensive portfolio of versatile A/D converters, covering a wide variety of speed, accuracy, and power requirements. The MCP3564 A/D Converter Evaluation Kit (ADM00583) is now available to demonstrate the capabilities of the MCP356x family. The kit consists of these components:

  • MCP3564 A/D Converter Evaluation Board for PIC32 Microcontrollers (ADM00583)
  • PIM PIC32MX795F512L
  • USB Cable The MCP356x and MCP346x A/D Converters are now available and are supplied in 20mm x 3mm UQFN-3 packages.
  • MCP3561: 24 bit, two channels
  • MCP3562: 24 bit, four channels
  • MCP3564: 24 bit, eight channels
  • MCP3461: 16 bit, two channels
  • MCP3462: 16 bit, four channels
  • MCP3464: 16-bit, eight-channel For more information, visit the MCP356x 24-bit and MCP346x 16-bit delta-sigma A/D converter families.
