Microchip's PIC32MZ microcontroller available from RS offers world-class performance and high code density

New family of integrated connectivity microcontrollers brings 330 DMIPS and 3,28 CoreMarks/MHz performance, plus a host of onboard peripherals

RS Components announces that it is now accepting orders for Microchip's new PIC32MZ 32-bit Embedded Connectivity (EC) family of microcontrollers. The PIC32MZ family includes 24 product variants and offers three times the performance and four times the memory of the previous generation PIC32MX, plus an easier and cheaper way to experiment with advanced peripherals.

The range offers 330 DMIPS and 3,28 CoreMarks/ MHz performance, up to 2MB real-time update and dual-panel Flash memory, 512KB RAM and peripheral connectivity including 10/100 Ethernet MAC, USB MAC /PHY high speed and two CAN ports. Internal Flash memory allows for instant upgrades via independent panels offering increased fail-safety when performing field upgrades while operating at full speed.

The PIC32MZ also features code density that is 30% better than its competitors, plus a 28 Megasample/s A/D converter that offers one of the best throughput rates for 32-bit MCUs. Additionally, the range integrates a full-featured hardware encryption engine and random number generator for high-speed data encryption and decryption and authentication, such as AES, 3DES, SHA, MD5 and HMAC, as well as the first SQI interface on a Microchip microcontroller and the highest number of serial channels in the PIC32 range.

In addition to Hi-Speed USB, Ethernet and CAN interfaces, a rich set of protocol stacks for wired and wireless connections are also available for applications requiring integrated connectivity. For graphics-intensive applications, the PIC32MZ provides WQVGA resolution without external graphics chips. Digital or streaming audio applications can also benefit from the range's 159 DSP instructions, large memory and peripherals such as I2S.

The PIC32MZ is also the first Microchip MCU to use Imagination's microAptiv™ MIPS core, which adds 159 new DSP instructions that enable execution of DSP algorithms with up to 75% lower cycle counts than with the PIC32MX families. This core also provides the microMIPSR instruction architecture, which improves code density while operating at near full speed, instruction and data cache, and its 200 MHz and 330 DMIPS offer three times the performance of the PIC32MX.

RS also has new tools to help with development based on the PIC32MZ, such as a complete starter kit, a multimedia expansion board, and a wide range of application-specific auxiliary boards. Microchip's PIC32MZ family is available from RS Components for distribution throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific, as well as in the United States through Allied Electronics.
