INELEC presents the new Maxwell Technologies K2 2.85V/3400F high load capacity cells

The newest member of the K2 family of ultracapacitors from Maxwell Technologies is the 2,85 volt 3400-Farad load cell. It expands the power range of the K2 family by 17% and power range by 23%, making it the most powerful cell available in the industry standard 60mm cylindrical form factor. It is the first cell to incorporate Maxwell DuraBlue™ Shock and Vibration technologies. Products with DuraBlue™ technology are tested against some of the most stringent shipping environmental requirements, increasing vibration resistance by approximately 3 times and shock immunity by 4 times compared to competitive ultracapacitor-based products . Therefore it can be said that it is the most robust cell in the world.

The K2 family features a 60mm diameter cylindrical design and an electrostatic charge storage capacity that can cycle one million charges and discharges without performance degradation. They are available in screw terminals, easy to implement or with compact solder terminals.

These cells are ideal for transportation applications, including mass transit vehicles and heavy haulage, environments where shock and vibration are more severe. They also provide extended periods of power by increasing the availability of power over longer periods for propulsion in automotive subsystems. They provide a faster response to critical information in UPS Power/Backup applications and in network applications to enable critical information to remain available during mains power supply sags and outages. In addition, one-off power increases can be provided, thus reducing costs by maximizing space and energy efficiency.

The K2 family of cells work in tandem mode with batteries for applications that require both constant discharge power for continuous function discharge and impulse power for peak loads. In these applications, the ultracapacitor relieves the batteries of power spikes resulting in extended battery life and a reduction in overall battery size and cost.

In applications where peak power is needed, the K2 family provides a "green" power solution to reduce peak power demand on the grid, batteries or generators. And, like all ultracapacitors, the Maxwell K2 series is capable of accepting charging on the same scale as discharging.
