Self-developed ASIC circuitry makes all the difference

RIGOL Technologies has developed two new ASICs for its next generation oscilloscope. With its Centaurus ASIC circuitry, RIGOL sets a new standard and, with the HDO1000 and HDO4000 families, presents two series of high-definition oscilloscopes with 12-bit vertical resolution.

The HDO1000 series has a 2 GS/s sample rate and is offered as a 2 or 4 channel solution with 70, 100 and 200 MHz bandwidths, while its maximum memory depth is 100 Mpts. In addition, the HDO4000 series is designed for 200, 400, and 800 MHz bandwidths with a higher sample rate of up to 4 GS/s, contains four analog channels, and offers a memory depth of up to 500 Mpts. The minimum vertical adjustment is 100 µV/DIV for the HDO4000 series and 500 µV/DIV for the HDO1000 series. Two different impedances (1 MΩ, 50 Ω) can be set for the HDO4000 series.

The two new ASICs achieve a very low noise level of approximately 18 µVrms (for HDO4000) or
50µVrms (for HDO1000). As in other RIGOL oscilloscopes, the combination of high sampling speed, deep memory and very high measurement speed has been prioritized. Even the smallest deviations in amplitude can be measured thanks to the 12-bit vertical resolution. A high resolution mode of up to 16 bit can also be activated for both devices. This means that very high resolutions in the horizontal and vertical areas are coupled with very deep memory, thus expanding the analysis capacity.

Among its most common applications are the analysis of switching measurements in the field of power, automated tests in factories, analysis of protocols for serial buses in automotive electronics, measurements in electronic circuits, development applications and many more.

With «Ultra Acquire», RIGOL has integrated a new way of analysis in both series that allows to reach a very fast trigger speed of 1,5 million waveforms/s, which facilitates the measurements of very fast or sporadic events and short. All devices incorporate a 1024-inch HD (800*10,1) capacitive touch screen with 256 levels of intensity and color tones for precise and clear signal display. To ensure maximum flexibility, the HDO4000 series allows the integration of a standard 18650 battery in order to carry out measurements without connection to the electrical network.

They also have several trigger options, math functions and display (FFT up to
1 million points, mask test and power analysis), an integrated signal search function, as well as all the usual triggering and serial bus protocol analysis functions. The integrated voltmeter and frequency meter complete the range of measurements. They also incorporate various interfaces, such as USB3.0 host, USB3.0 device, HDMI, LAN (10/100/1000 Base-T) and AUX OUT.

An extensive range of accessories is also available, consisting of active and passive probes, high voltage probes (differential/single ended), different current probes (up to 500 A), 19-inch mounting frame, software drivers for well-known packages. and high-level languages, as well as modern and fast web remote control via LAN.

The hardware contains a photoelectric encoder to operate the controls, which generates very little wear, thus prolonging the useful life.

As a special feature, Rigol offers many extensions, such as higher bandwidths or memory expansion via software upgrade. Serial triggering and decoding (SPI, I2C, RS232/UART, CAN and LIN) are already implemented in the oscilloscope. This minimizes the risk of a bad buy because you can start with a somewhat smaller set of equipment and later adapt it to more extensive or demanding measurement requirements in the laboratory. As always, Rigol has not promised too much in this regard and offers these fully equipped oscilloscopes at the best price/performance ratio. Rigol's well-known 3-year warranty rounds off the offer for all users.
