RECOM extends the input range of the R-78 series up to 40V and the temperature up to +100°C.
RECOM's R-78 series three-terminal switching regulators have long been a popular replacement for the "78 series" lossy linear types, with dramatic improvements in efficiency that eliminate the need for heatsinks. , saving costs and valuable board space. Now the range has been expanded with the cost-effective R-78CK-0,5 series, which operates at 40V input and over a wider ambient temperature range, up to +100°C. The nominal output current is 0,5A and the available fixed output voltages are 3,3V, 5V, 12V and 15V.
The efficiency of the R-78CK-0,5 series reaches a maximum of 96%, allowing operation up to +100°C ambient without derating or with minimal derating at the minimum input voltage, depending on the variant. At higher input voltages, the full 0,5A output can operate down to a minimum of +65°C ambient, depending on the variant.
Complete protection against input undervoltages, short circuits and thermal protection is provided, and parts are certified to IEC/EN 62368-1 3rd edition.
Other improvements compared to the R-78E series include lower quiescent current, lower allowable input-output differential voltage for the 3,3V and 5V output parts, and smaller package size in each dimension, while maintaining the standard pinout.
