Distributor collaborates with WITT Energy to bring to market an innovative sustainable device for use in offshore and remote applications

RS Group plc has unveiled details of its close collaboration with WITT Energy and the development of the innovative WITT device.

WITT Energy is a start-up company that has developed an award-winning device that harnesses motion and converts it into usable energy. The WITT device, which takes its name from «Whatever Input to Torsion Transfer”, essentially takes advantage of the six degrees of movement and converts that energy into electrical energy to charge batteries. The concept can be especially useful in harsh marine environments, where the device can harness energy from current, wind and waves and provide constant power for remote applications.

The collaboration with RS has several levels and combines business support, supply of materials, community action and training. The project is led by the RS innovation team (along with the RS DesignSpark team, who have been in contact with WITT for many years) to help bring product development to life and supply the components that allow the product to reach to the market.

WITT's novel device is still in the development phase, but has recently passed a series of open water tests and has been shown to be fit for purpose. The next step is to go beyond the prototype phase and give way to a wide variety of uses of all kinds. To this end, WITT is currently engaged in discussions and trials with many governments and energy and water officials around the world, as well as several multinational companies.

“We are very happy to announce our cooperation with WITT Energy. We have to act and collaborate to change our world for a more sustainable future,” said Mike Bray, Vice President of Innovation and RS DesignSpark. “RS has many programs in place to help make this change, and the highly innovative WITT product is just one example of our Activist Engineering program, designed to help engineers develop sustainable solutions and bring them to market.”

"RS is the best partner for our product development, in terms of sourcing materials and the knowledge and experience to help us bring our technology to market," said Tim Williams, CEO of WITT Energy. "Working with RS, our team of expert engineers is fully dedicated to getting the WITT device used in many different offshore energy harvesting facilities to improve our environment."
