Mouser Electronics is greatly expanding its large international headquarters and distribution center to continue to meet the needs of its growing business well into the next decade. The company recently broke ground on a 38-square-meter, three-story building that will expand its distribution center, located south of Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.

"With a larger warehouse and continued investment in automation and staff, Mouser is preparing for the future while ensuring the highest levels of customer service today," said Pete Shopp, vice president of business operations for Mouser Electronics. "The tools and systems we've put in place offer another way we can shorten time to market for our customers."

Upon completion of the new construction, Mouser's 78-acre international headquarters and massive distribution center will have nearly 1,5 million square feet to accommodate Mouser's expansive inventory of 1 million stock items and over-the-counter technologies. of 1200 manufacturers of electronic components. The new building will feature a triple mezzanine floor plan, advanced automation, and a connecting bridge to the existing distribution center building. Taken together, the new expansion will cement Mouser's place as one of the most advanced receiving, fulfillment and shipping departments in e-commerce. As of spring 2022, Mouser has completed the installation of 120 VLMs, the largest VLM installation in the world. VLMs are basically gigantic vertical filing cabinets, complete with shelves and an automated puller to move the components to the employee's workstation. This increases efficiency and available space, and can reduce the time an employee must walk by 45% or more.

In addition to the massive VLM facility, Mouser's distribution center features multiple Ultipack and I-Pack machines, a sophisticated automated shipping sealing and labeling system that can process up to 14 orders per minute, as well as an OPEX Perfect Pick system for consolidation and an AutoStore system.

Although the adoption of cutting-edge automation acts primarily as a way to boost efficiency, productivity, accuracy, and speed, the systems also enable more sustainable operations and greater customer satisfaction.
