Ideal for test applications and healthcare environments, the TDK-Lambda MU4 series models offer extremely low acoustic noise and insulation for BF equipment.

TDK Corporation (TSE 6762) announces the introduction of the series TDK-Lambda MU4 of modular AC-DC power supplies with a height 1U. These products offer the extremely low acoustic noise demanded in test applications and healthcare environments, where sound disturbances have to be kept to a minimum.

The new MU4 modular power supplies can provide up to five isolated and regulated outputs and deliver up to 800 W. All models in this series are insulated MOPPs (Means of Patient Protection), including output to ground, to simplify implementation in type BF medical devices. Other applications are in dental equipment, test and measurement, Broadcast, professional audio and industrial equipment.

With smart fan control, the speed of rotation of the fan itself is reduced, producing a sound noise of only 36 dBA*. Their microcontroller algorithm monitors the temperature of the primary converter and each output module, thus allowing the fan speed to be adjusted to optimize cooling.

Each MU4 unit, with a height of 1U, measures 89 x 41 x 257,5 mm with the intention of supporting a "closed" system of small dimensions.

Initially, they are available nine modelswith a range of stresses 3,3 to 104V and powers from 150 to 480 W. Options include voltage in standby de 5 V / 2 A, fan failure signal, inhibits & enable (for all outputs or some individual ones), DC good, communication PMBus™ and shared current for parallel configurations.

The marketing process includesseveral phases that are reflected below: configuration and selection of MU4 series products is very easy using the tool online Quick Product Finder, which automatically generates an optimized module selection from a wide variety of options. After entering the desired output voltages and currents, a seven-digit code is created to facilitate ordering.

With efficiencies of up to 90 percent, the MU4 series operates with one input from 85 to 264VacOffering 800 W between 180 and 264 Vac and 600 W from 90 to 180 Vac, with limitation applied below 90 Vac.

The maximum leakage current is at 300 µA – including all tolerances – and the tactile current is <100µA. Yields in the temperature range -20 to +70 °C, linearly limited to 50 percent load, above 50 °C.

The MU4 series has an input to output isolation of 4.000 Vac (2 x MoPP), an input insulation to ground of 1.500 Vac (1 x MoPP) and an output insulation to ground of 1.500 Vac (1 x MoPP) to meet the medical equipment needs of type B and BF.

The certifications of fullfilment of security requirements include IEC/EN 60601-1 and ES 60601-1. The new power supplies are also designed to comply with IEC/EN/CSA/UL 62368-1 and IEC/EN 61010-1 and have the CE/UKCA marking, according to Low Voltage directives (LV), EMC and RoHS full European Union and the regulations of United Kingdom. In addition, they exceed the provisions of the EN 55011-B and EN 55032-B standards for radiated and conducted emissions and EN 60601-1-2:2015 (fourth edition) and EN 61000-4 for immunity.

*Patent pending. Configuration dependent, 25°C and 115/240Vac nominal conditions and 80 percent drive power.
