KIOXIA is the first to introduce PCIe/NVMe removable storage device, compatible with JEDEC XFM version 1.0

storage device

KIOXIA Europe GmbH today announced the start of testing of the industry's first XFM version 1.0 compliant NVMe removable storage device with built-in PCIe and 256 GB and 512 GB capacity: the XFMEXPRESS XT2. The XFM version 1.0 standard storage device, with the new XT2 design and connector, offers an unmatched combination of features designed to revolutionize ultra-mobile computers, IoT devices and various embedded applications.

The KIOXIA XFMEXPRESS XT2 is a new design for PCIe/NVMe devices. It was first submitted in August 2019, and later as a proposal to the JEDEC Subcommittee for Electrical Specifications and Command Protocols. Offering a powerful combination of small size, speed, and ease of maintenance, XFMEXPRESS technology has been developed to enhance next-generation embedded and mobile applications. The KIOXIA XFMEXPRESS XT2 is the first product to meet the specifications of the JEDEC standard.

Main features and benefits of the KIOXIA XFMEXPRESS XT2:

  • A service that changes the rules of the game
The XFMEXPRESS XT2 enables a new category of small storage devices that are easy to maintain or upgrade. By marrying a robust and compact package with the functionality and flexibility of removable storage, the XFMEXPRESS XT2 helps overcome technical hurdles and design constraints.
  • Mobile-friendly surface
The JEDEC XFM DEVICE version 1.0 design has a small footprint and low profile (14mm × 18mm × 1,4mm) offering a footprint of 252mm, optimizing mounting space for ultra-compact host devices without sacrifice performance or serviceability. With this minimized z-height, the XFMEXPRESS XT2 design is excellent for thin and light notebooks, creating new design possibilities for next-generation applications and systems.
  • Interface
Built for speed, the XFMEXPRESS XT2 implements a PCIe 4.0 × 2 lane, NVMe 1.4b interface. The industry-leading performance capabilities and durable design of the XFMEXPRESS XT2 provide a compelling alternative to other SSD form factors (such as M.2), resulting in superior computing and entertainment experiences.

"KIOXIA, the inventor of Flash memory, drew on its extensive experience in single-package memory design to develop the XFMEXPRESS XT2, identifying the need for a new class of removable storage," said Axel Stoermann, Vice President of Marketing and Engineering. of Memories (Memory Marketing & Engineering) of KIOXIA Europe GmbH. "We plan to innovate and lead the way with more game-changing storage solutions to meet complex design challenges in the future."

KIOXIA will demonstrate its XT2 solution live at Embedded World 2022 in Nurnberg (Germany), from June 21 to 23 in Hall 3A, booth #3A-117, as well as at the Flash Memory Summit 2022, which will be held from August 2 to 4 at the Santa Clara Convention Center, California.
