Microchip announces the market's first development kit for 2D projection capacitive touch (PCAP) sensing and 3D gesture recognition in displays: the 2D/3D Touch and Gesture Development Kit 2D/3D Touch and Gesture Development Kit  (DV102014). The kit will give designers access to Microchip's patented GestIC® 2D and 3D sensing technology, which enables them to easily integrate 2D multi-touch recognition and 3D hand gestures into their display applications. The use of electric field-based technology now allows tracking of hand and finger gestures on and above the surface of the display, and at a distance of up to 20 cm. In addition, the development kit provides a user-friendly and ready-to-use experience that does not require code development. Parameterization, diagnostics and optional adjustments are carried out using Aurea 2.0, a free downloadable graphical user interface (GUI).

The 2D/3D Touch and Gesture Development Kit incorporates Microchip's most advanced PCAP controller, the MTCH6303, as well as the MGC3 3130D gesture controller. It includes an eight-inch transparent touch sensor to enable rapid prototyping for the most widely used displays. The MTCH6303 provides multi-touch coordinates with a five-finger swipe speed of 100 Hz. It also integrates a set of multi-finger surface gestures that fit well with both OS-driven applications and non-OS embedded systems.

The MGC3130 with Microchip's award-winning GestIC technology was the first electrical field-based 3D gesture controller to deliver low-power, accurate, and robust hand position tracking at 200 Hz. In addition, the GestIC technology uses hidden Markov models advanced to ensure the 3D hand gesture recognition rate over 95%. Free space hand gestures are universal, hygienic, and easy to learn, making them ideal for display applications.

The 2D/3D Touch and Gesture Development Kit (DV102014) is available now and is priced at $249.
