First Automotive-Certified Gen 4 PCIe® Switches Leave Autonomous Driving Ecosystem

Switchtec™ Gen 4 PCIe Switches Deliver High-Performance, Low-Power, Low-Latency Connectivity for ADAS Designs

High-speed, low-latency connectivity solutions for distributed and heterogeneous computing systems are an essential factor in next-generation autonomous driving applications. Microchip Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: MCHP) announces the first generation 4 automotive PCIe® qualified switches to market. These Switchtec™ PFX, PSX and PAX switch solutions offer state-of-the-art computer interconnect capabilities for Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS).

“Our portfolio of automotive-qualified products, made up of 4th generation Switchtec switches, deliver the lowest latency and huge bandwidth required to match the CPU and throttle blocks used in ADAS applications,” said Krishna Mallampati, Senior Associate Manager. Marketing and Applications Manager for Microchip's Data Center Solutions business unit. "We are delighted to conclude multiple years of cooperation with technology partners and service customers to bring these solutions to market."

Switchtec Gen 4 PCIe switches provide the high-speed interconnection that enables distributed processing and real-time data-critical data security in ADAS architectures. PCIe emerges as the preferred computer interconnect solution for the automotive industry for exactly the same reasons that explain its widespread use in the data center market. Provides ultra-low latency and low bandwidth consumption for CPUs and specialized accelerator devices.

"The certification of Microchip's solutions to meet the demanding needs of the automotive market is a significant milestone on which NVIDIA has closely cooperated," said Michael Truog, director of Automotive Platform Architectures at NVIDIA. "Microchip's automotive PCIe switches offer advanced programmability and flexibility, enabling high-speed SoC and GPU connectivity on our NVIDIA DRIVE platform."
