Arrow Electronics has signed an agreement with Israeli company Appletec under which Appletec will produce a range of Compact Camera Modules (CCMs) exclusively for Arrow.

CCMs are intended for developers who want to add embedded vision capability to products used in industries such as industrial, medical, security, and automotive. There will be a customization service to offer a variety of interconnection solutions.

The choice of CCM will depend on a number of factors in the application requirements. For example, the amount of detail to be captured will determine the choice of resolution and frame rate; while the field of view (FOV) and depth of field selected will reflect the area to be covered.

Arrow's MCCs use onsemi's Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) image sensors and can use the image processor (ISP) on the customer's motherboard where, to minimize costs, they do not include their own ISP. Initially, there will be two fixed-focus CCMs with 0,3 or 4MP sensors and fields of view between 49 and 84 degrees. Frame rates range from 36,7fps (at 720p) or 75fps (at VGA) up to 360fps. An autofocus CCM with a 13MP sensor with a 30fps 64 degree field of view will be added soon.

A fourth CCM with a 1,26MP 30fps sensor and integrated image stream processor completes the range. This provides vision functionality even for MCU platforms without additional hardware components and thus maintains a cost-effective design.

System developers can write their own software drivers for the MCCs or use the driver produced by eInfochips, an Arrow company, which will be released in late Q2022 XNUMX.

Companies that want to further accelerate development times can implement one of Arrow's recently announced fully plug-and-play camera reference designs.
