Advantech announces the AIMB-522, an industrial Micro-ATX motherboard for AI image processing in automation and surveillance. The AIMB-522 takes advantage of AMD's first desktop processor, the Ryzen™ Embedded 5000, featuring 16 high-performance Zen 3 cores. In addition, AIMB-522 applies a suite of technologies that boost performance efficiency, such as PCIe Gen 4 expandability, 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports, and 8 x USB 3.2. The result of this combination of features and functions is an excellent solution for industrial automation, smart logistics, and smart surveillance applications.

AMD Ryzen™ Embedded 5000 Desktop Processor Delivers Superior Performance

The AIMB-522 incorporates the AMD Ryzen™ Embedded 5000 processor with the performance of Zen 3, thus offering a higher level of processing and efficient consumption. The per-clock instructions, 16 cores, and L3 cache provided by Zen 3 are excellent for latency-sensitive applications in smart manufacturing, automated visual inspection, and smart surveillance. This increase in performance is obtained without increasing consumption or TDP. In fact, the industry's most advanced 7nm process enables AMD's Ryzen™ Embedded 5000 Series to improve power efficiency by 24% and 2,8x compared to previous generation solutions and with competing architectures, respectively.

High-speed interfaces for camera-based applications

Machine vision applications require the full integration of high-speed digital cameras. Hence, the AIMB-522 incorporates 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports and 8 3.2Gbps USB 10 ports. These interfaces provide full connectivity for cameras with high data rates and transfer bandwidths of up to 350MB/s and/or 60 fps. These features make the AIMB-522 capable of integrating more than 10 high-quality video cameras without resorting to additional peripheral cards. For increased connectivity, the 4 built-in PCI-Express slots offer the flexibility to connect more camera devices or industrial controllers with add-in cards.

Higher expandability for integration into industrial applications

Advantech's AIMB-522 supports 1 x PCI-Express x16 Gen4 bus standard for demanding graphics applications. In addition, its 2 x PCI-Express x4 slots offer the necessary expandability to integrate robotic controller cards, while the built-in M.2 M-Key socket supports high-speed SSDs for real-time OS operations. This expandability with industrial peripherals allows the AIMB-522 to be used to modernize controllers and industrial automation systems, and facilitates AI image processing.
