Würth Elektronik presents the ICLED color calculator

Determining and adjusting precise color values for RGB LEDs

With the ICLED Color Calculator, Würth Elektronik is introducing a new service on its REDEXPERT online platform. This unique, free tool allows designers to quickly and easily determine the exact PWM values required to represent specific ICLED color values without additional measurements. Würth Elektronik determines these parameters for each batch before it leaves the warehouse. The advantage: exact color reproduction without additional effort. This expands the possibilities of ICLED lighting and signaling solutions and accelerates their development.

The REDEXPERT ICLED color calculator offers an intuitive user interface where users can select the desired ICLED type, batch, and color and brightness in the standard CIE1931 color system ("xy color space"). The tool then automatically generates the appropriate digital signals for pulse-width modulation (PWM) of the RGB LEDs in the ICLED component. These values can be transferred directly to the programming. This is made possible by a meticulous sorting process during ICLED production. Würth Elektronik only offers LEDs with consistent color temperature and luminosity characteristics for each batch. Based on precise quality controls and binning, the company opens up new possibilities for demanding LED applications thanks to its innovative development tool.

Design possibilities in lighting

“The ICLED color calculator is the first tool of its kind and reinforces our position as a service leader. No other manufacturer offers a comparable solution that supports customers right through to the production phase,” emphasizes Alexander Gerfer, CTO of Würth Elektronik eiSos. Carlos Roberto Hernández Gómez, ICLED Product Manager at Würth Elektronik eiSos, adds: “This tool significantly reduces effort, as manual testing of color combinations is no longer necessary. Designers can now choose from more than 16 million color options and directly generate the appropriate signal.”
