What's next in autonomous driving? Mouser's Empowering Innovation Together Explores AI-Based Driver Monitoring

autonomous driving

Mouser Electronics has released the latest chapter of its award-winning Empowering Innovation Together™ program. This new episode discusses the importance of driver monitoring systems that detect driver presence and status, such as fatigue or distraction, with the aim of improving the safety required for autonomous driving level 3 and beyond. The contents of this fourth installment include two articles, a blog, an infographic, a new episode of the podcast Tech Between Us and a new video So now and then.

The topic on driver supervision systems addresses the methods that allow to mitigate negative situations by detecting the driver and the occupants, thanks to new interfaces. Interior monitoring systems are capable of detecting signs of driver distraction or fatigue, as well as the presence of occupants and their condition, to warn the driver.

“As the adoption of autonomous vehicles increases in the market, the safety of vehicles and passengers becomes an imperative,” said Glenn Smith, president and CEO of Mouser Electronics. "With this installment of EIT we want to share the expertise of industry leaders and help our customers and supporters understand this technology and its importance."

In the last episode of the podcast Tech Between Us, Modar Alaoui, Founder and CEO of Eyeris, joins our host Raymond Yin, Director of Technical Content at Mouser Electronics, for a discussion about in-vehicle driver monitoring systems, the legislation surrounding this technology, and the hardware and the software behind the systems.

“I am very pleased to be able to speak with Raymond and Mouser listeners about the exciting growth of in-vehicle vision AI,” says Alaoui. "This pioneering technology has the potential to completely transform the way we interact with vehicles and how they deal with our safety."

This installment on driver monitoring systems is sponsored by Analog Devices, Infineon Technologies, Molex, NXP Semiconductors, onsemi, and TE Connectivity.

Founded in 2015, Mouser's Empowering Innovation Together program is one of the most recognized electronic component programs in the industry.
