LE50-28 power converters are available in nine versions with one and three outputs for optimal design configurability
The LEO (Low-Earth Orbit) market is growing rapidly as both private and public entities explore the new space region for all types of applications, from 5G communications and cubic satellites to IoT. There is a growing demand for standard space solutions that are reliable, cost-effective and configurable. With the aim of covering this market need, Microchip Technology today announces a new family of 50W DC/DC Isolated Radiation Tolerant LE50-28 Power Converters Available in nine versions with one and three outputs from 3,3V to 28V.
The LE50-28 family power converters are designed to meet the MIL-STD-461 standard. These power converters have an EMI filter and make it easier for designers to adapt and customize since they can choose between one or three outputs depending on the voltage range needed by the final application. This series provides flexibility to connect up to four power converters in parallel to reach up to 200W.
LE50-28 isolated DC/DC power converters, designed for systems with a 28V bus, can be integrated with PolarFire FPGA®, microcontrollers and Microchip's LX7720-RT motor control sensor for a complete electrical system. Designers can use these high-reliability, radiation-tolerant power solutions to significantly reduce system development time.
“The new LE50-28 family of devices allows our customers to succeed in new space and LEO environments, where components must withstand very harsh conditions,” said Leon Gross, vice president of Microchip's Discrete Products Group. “Our commercial products offer a reliable and cost-effective solution, designed to provide the durability our customers expect from Microchip.”
LE50-28 power converters offer various electrical connection and mounting options. The LE50 series has been manufactured with conventional components for surface mounting and insertion into a printed circuit board. This distinction in the manufacturing process can reduce time to market and reduce risks due to supply chain disruptions.
The LE50-28 family offers space radiation tolerance with a Total Ionizing Dose (TID) of 50 Krad and Single Event Effects (SEE) blocking immunity of 37 MeV·cm2/mg linear energy transfer.
Microchip offers a wide range of components aimed at the new space evolution with a strategy that covers the gap between traditional QML (Qualified Manufacturers List) and commercial components. Sub-QML components, designed for new space applications, are the optimal solution that combines the radiation tolerance of QML components and our space flight experience, allowing reduced shielding requirements to reduce cost and delivery times. .
Microchip's numerous space solutions include FPGAs, power and discrete devices, memory products, communication interfaces, oscillators, microprocessors and microcontrollers, offering a wide range of options with various levels of qualification and the broadest portfolio for applications. spatial.
