Microchip introduces a new flexible family of Gigabit Ethernet switches with TSN/AVB and redundancy for industrial applications

Microchip Introduces New Flexible Family of Gigabit Ethernet Switches

Microchip's LAN9645xF and LAN9645xS next-generation GbE switches are highly configurable with multiple ports and advanced features.

Ethernet technology provides the reliable, high-speed communication needed to connect and control industrial devices in real time. Its scalability and flexibility to support protocols such as TSN ensure its full integration into demanding industrial environments. Microchip Technology today announces the next generation of its LAN9645xF and LAN9645xS Gigabit Ethernet switches with multi-port configurations and options to achieve maximum levels of reliability and flexibility.

The LAN9645xF/S switches offer a variety of configurations to meet the needs of each application and are available in 5, 7, and 9 ports with up to five integrated 5/10/100BASE-T PHYs. This flexibility is enhanced by the ability to operate in unmanaged standalone configurations or in managed mode with full support for the Linux architecture.® DSA (Distributed Switch Architecture) on a connected host.

The LAN9645xF incorporates advanced features such as Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) and Audio Video Bridging (AVB) in managed mode. This version enhances network reliability with IEC 62439-3 compliant hardware-assisted redundancy for Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP) and High-Availability Seamless Redundancy (HSR), enabling redundant power without packet loss in the event of a failure. The LAN9645xS supports standard Ethernet switching with some support for Precision Time Protocol (PRP) and is intended for use as a low-cost unmanaged switch.

“Our LAN9645x F/S devices help our customers lower system costs and implement advanced TSN and redundancy capabilities by combining numerous features into a single solution,” said Charlie Forni, corporate vice president of Microchip’s Networking and Communications Business Unit. “We back our products with global technical support and a comprehensive suite of development tools to make it easier for our customers to design and deploy their industrial networks.”

Microchip's LAN9645xF/S delivers high-performance, adaptable networking solutions for industrial Ethernet applications, as well as the aerospace and defense, data center, and sustainability markets. The Ethernet devices also integrate seamlessly into Microchip's ecosystem of microcontrollers, memory, and timing solutions to enable reliable and scalable networks in demanding environments. Development tools

The LAN9645xF and LAN9645xS switches are supported by the LAN96459 EDS2 auxiliary card (EV14H52A) for the compatible Curiosity evaluation board, as well as the  LAN96459 standalone card (EV03E14A) for unmanaged demonstrations. The LAN96459 EDS2 daughter card, used with a Curiosity EVB, uses Linux software® DSA (Distributed Switch Architecture).
