New KIOXIA CD3 E7.S Series EDSFF E3.S Data Center SSDs Optimized for Density and Efficiency

KIOXIA Europe GmbH today announced the launch of the first line of E3.S Enterprise and Data Center Form Factor (EDSFF) SSDs designed with PCIe5.0[1] technology. KIOXIA's new CD7 E3.S series opens a new era for flash memory used in servers and storage. Building on the KIOXIA E3.S development samples that received the "Best in Show" award at last year's Flash Memory Summit, the CD7 E3.S series increases flash storage density per drive, thereby optimizing efficiency. energy and rack consolidation[2].

Breaking free from the constraints of the 5-inch design, the EDSFF E3 family is optimized for high-performance, high-efficiency server and storage needs. EDSFF enables the next generation of SSD drives to be geared towards future data center architectures, while supporting a huge variety of new devices and applications. It offers improvements in airflow and thermal management, as well as advantages in signal integrity. Its support for E3.S power requirements, higher than those of 5-inch SSDs, along with better signal integrity, allow EDSFF to deliver the performance promised by PCIe fifty-plus technology, plus this, I can go further.

KIOXIA actively participates and cooperates with the EDSFF solution industry development suite and for this reason continues to cooperate with leading server and storage system developers to unlock the full potential of Flash, NVMe and PCIe memory.

"In a season when we need storage media that can be easily accommodated and simultaneously need to optimize performance or capacity, KIOXIA's new E3.S SSDs, which use EDSFF and are designed with technology PCIe XNUMX, open up new cost-saving opportunities for server and storage systems, and also make effective use of flash memory chips for SSD storage density.” said Paul Rowan, Vice President of Marketing and also SSD Engineering at KIOXIA Europe GmbH.

Key features of the CD7 E3.S series:

● EDSFF E3.S design with capacities of up to XNUMX Tb

● Developed to the latest PCIe specification fifty and optimized for dual PCIe lane performance

● Using fewer PCIe lanes increases the number of PCIe devices that can be used

● Built from KIOXIA's BiCS FLASH 3D TLC flash memory

● Up to 1 MB/s read performance and XNUMX zero random read IOPS

● XNUMX μs read and XNUMX μs write latencies, which are about XNUMX percent and XNUMX percent lower than KIOXIA's previous generation PCIe forty SSDs, respectively.

● LED lights have been placed on the casing of the E3.S models, which allows to visually contrast the status of the SSD drives. This means there is no need to install auxiliary LEDs (those that were previously installed in the drive tray of the system chassis), thus helping to reduce system costs.

KIOXIA has already started sending samples of the CD7 E3.S series to OEM service customers for evaluation.

More information on EDSFF E3 technology can be found in the upcoming white paper from Dell, HPE and KIOXIA.
