KIOXIA introduces the first enterprise PCIe SSD drives

KIOXIA's CM10 series SSDs offer direct liquid cooling capabilities, delivering new levels of performance and power efficiency for AI workloads.

KIOXIA Europe GmbH today announced the KIOXIA CM10 series of solid-state drives (SSDs), featuring the company’s latest 10th generation BiCS FLASH™ TLC flash memory. Designed for demanding enterprise and AI workloads, including AI inference and context caching, the new drives are compatible with NVIDIA’s CMX architecture and offer significant improvements in performance, power efficiency, and cooling flexibility over the previous generation.

The KIOXIA CM10 series is KIOXIA's first enterprise PCIe 6.0 SSD and offers direct liquid cooling via a cold plate, enabling more efficient cooling for next-generation AI infrastructures. Compared to the previous generation(1)The KIOXIA CM10 series offers up to 92% higher sequential read performance and up to approximately 85% higher read and write performance, helping to accelerate data-intensive AI inference and enterprise applications, while improving overall system efficiency.

As AI models continue to grow to trillions of parameters and context windows expand to millions of tokens, the demand for high-performance context caching is growing rapidly.

Architectures like NVIDIA CMX extend the memory hierarchy beyond GPU memory by leveraging high-performance flash storage, making enterprise SSDs an increasingly important component of AI infrastructures. The KIOXIA CM10 series is designed to meet these evolving requirements, delivering the performance, capacity, and endurance needed to deploy AI at scale.

“The role of storage is rapidly expanding. SSDs are now a critical part of the inference process,” said Paul Rowan, marketing director and vice president of KIOXIA Europe GmbH. Mr. Rowan continued, “KIOXIA’s CM10 series is designed to be compatible with NVIDIA CMX, delivering the performance, efficiency, and endurance required for these next-generation AI applications.”

Key features of the KIOXIA CM10 series include:

  • PCIe 6.0, NVMe 2.1 and Open Compute Project (OCP) Datacenter NVMe SSD Specification 2.7(2), including support for NVMe Flexible Data Placement (FDP).
  • Available in E3.S, E1.S and 2,5-inch formats(3), with liquid cooling capability via cold plate in the 9,5mm E3.S and E1.S form factors. (all formats are compatible with traditional air cooling environments).
  • Capacities ranging from 1,60 TB to 61,44 TB (varies by form factor), with endurance options for heavy read use (1 DWPD) and mixed use (3 DWPD).
  • It works with the latest generation KIOXIA BiCS FLASH™ 10th generation flash memory (332 layers), which improves SSD performance and energy efficiency.
  • Security options include SIE, SED, SED FIPS 140-3 (prospective), CNSA 2.0 recommended post-quantum cryptography, and SPDM 1.4 certification compatibility.

The KIOXIA CM10 series units are currently being distributed as samples to selected customers and will be showcased at the trade fair. FMS: the Future of Memory and Storage, which will take place from August 4 to 6 in Santa Clara, California.
