Some HPE servers and storage solutions already include CD3-series EDSFF E7.S form factor drives

KIOXIA Europe GmbH today announced that its range of NVMe SSD drivesTM Data Center in Enterprise and Data Center Standard Form Factor (EDSFF) E3.S CD7 series will be included first in servers and storage solutions from Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE).

KIOXIA CD7 E3.S SSDs are the industry's first EDSFF drives designed with PCIe technology® 5.0, allowing them to increase flash storage density per drive to optimize power efficiency and in-rack consolidation.

HPE ProLiant Gen11 Servers, HPE Alletra 4000 Data Storage Servers, and the HPE Synergy 480 Gen11 Compute Module feature the latest PCIe 5.0 interface, allowing them to double the performance of PCIe 4.0. Additionally, and optionally, they support EDSFF E3.S drive bays.

A natural evolution of the 2,5-inch form factor, the EDSFF E3.S drives are designed to meet high-performance flash storage needs. Compared to 2,5-inch drives, the E3.S support denser and more efficient deployments in the same rack unit, while improving its cooling and thermal characteristics, and increasing its capacity from 1,5 to 2 times.

"HPE is pleased to be working with KIOXIA to offer our customers the new CD7 EDSFF E3 series SSDs, bringing high performance to our next-generation server and storage product lines," said Jim Jackson, executive vice president and chief executive officer. Hewlett Packard Enterprise Marketing. "Together, the two companies are focused on continuing to innovate and deliver solutions that improve application performance and efficiency benefits, while reducing TCO."

Available in capacities from 1.920 to 7.680 gigabytes (GB), the KIOXIA CD7 series SSDs support PCIe 5.0 and NVMe 2.0 specifications, are compliant with the EDSFF E3.S specification, and feature 1 DWPD of read-intensive endurance.

Paul Rowan, Vice President of SSD Marketing and Engineering, KIOXIA Europe GmbH, stated: “Our primary goal is to deliver leading SSD technology with increased performance, reliability and value through our enhanced SSD products. It is the foundation of our commitment to partners like HPE, turning to high-performance systems while using EDSFF and PCIe 5.0 technologies."
