New KIOXIA XD7P Series NVMe SSDs for Data Centers Offer Enhanced Performance with PCIe 5.0 Technology

KIOXIA Europe GmbH announced today that it has expanded its extensive portfolio of SSDs for data centers, enterprises and customers with the addition of KIOXIA XD7P series NVMe data center SSDs. Designed for general server and hyperscale applications in the new E1.S design, Standard for Data Centers and Enterprises (EDSFF), the XD7P drives are the second generation of KIOXIA's E1.S SSDs with NVMe SDD compatibility for data centers. Open Computing Project (OCP) data, following KIOXIA's XD6 series.

“Hyperscale needs for density, power, performance, and serviceability drive PCIe 5.0, E1.S as a form factor, and OCP Data Center NVMe SSD V2.0 specification for the data center,” said Ross Stenfort, software storage engineer at Meta. "KIOXIA's XD7P series SDD supports these storage technologies to enable next-generation hyperscale needs."

The XD7P series data center NVMe SSDs offer improved overall performance, achieving nearly 1,5 to 2 times more sequential write performance and random read/write performance compared to their predecessors. The XD7P drives are designed to meet PCIe 4.0 and NVMe 2.0 specifications, while PCIe 5.0 with a maximum interface speed of 32 GT/s per lane is currently under development. Therefore, the XD7P will initially be marketed as PCIe 4.0 SSDs. PCIe 5.0 SSDs will be released based on customer demand.

Based on KIOXIA's fifth-generation BiCS FLASH 3D memory technology, the XD7P series uses KIOXIA's own controller, which can be customized based on customer needs. The E1.S design will be available in 9,5mm, 15mm and 25mm heights with heat sink options. Capacities up to 7,68TB with 1 DWPD endurance will be available. SED TCG Opal SSC security options will also be available.

Next-generation cloud and advanced platforms need to address the challenges stemming from signal integrity and thermal requirements,” commented Frederik Haak, Senior Manager SSD Marketing at KIOXIA Europe GmbH. “KIOXIA's new generation E1.S design NVMe and PCIe data center SSD, the XD7P series, is an excellent choice for system and cloud engineers prioritizing future platform test design.

KIOXIA XD7P series sample units are being shipped to some customers in data centers for evaluation.
