For most people, video legalization means ensuring that baseband signal levels for digital video are “legal”, that is, within legal ranges. In the case of SD video, the analog signal is digitally represented by 8 bits in the range 0 to 255, in either RGB or YUV/YPrPb color modes. Depending on the color mode, some of these values ​​and value combinations are outside the range of black or white, for example there are sync signals or “ultra-white” or they simply cannot be converted from one color mode to the other.
