Microchip Introduces 64 Mbit Parallel Access Flash Memory Device Based on Advanced Process Technology

Microchip announces a new parallel access Flash memory device: the SST38VF6401B. The SST38VF6401B is an Advanced Multi-Purpose Flash Plus (Advanced MPF+) CMOS device of
4M x16 made with CMOS SuperFlash technology® Microchip's high-performance, split-gate cell design and tunnel injector with thick oxide layer for improved reliability and manufacturability. This device conforms to the pin assignments per the JEDEC standard for x16 memory.

With a working voltage range of 2,7 to 3,6V, fast read and program times, and advanced protection features, this parallel access Flash memory excels in multiple applications. The memory is divided into uniform blocks of 32 Kwords and non-uniform blocks of
8 Kwords, thus offering flexible erasure options and a complete partition for programming code and data.

The SST38VF6401B Parallel Access Flash memory offers high performance and flexible read and write options, including 70 ns random read access time; 25 ns page read access time; erasure of sectors and blocks of even 18 ms; erase of the entire Flash memory chip in 40 ms; a word programming time of 7 µs; and a buffer-write programming time of 1,75 µs (typical). The device offers superior reliability with its 100.000 cycle life (typical) and data retention for more than 100 years. The active read current of these devices is only 25 mA (typical) at 5 MHz and the standby current is only 5 µA (typical). The SST38VF6401B also provides various levels of protection and security features such as Security-ID, hardware boot block protection, individual block protection, password protection, and irreversible block lock.

This device excels in a wide variety of consumer, automotive, industrial and other applications. Some examples of end applications are set-top boxes, multifunction printers, and digital televisions, as well as car audio, video, and infotainment products. In addition, this parallel access Flash memory device is well suited for network and industrial applications such as gateways, switches, and industrial control equipment.

The SST38VF6401B devices are now available for sampling and volume production and are supplied in 48-pin TSSOP and 48-ball TFBGA packages.
