Siemens celebrates 119 years in Spain

The company has contributed to the industrial strengthening of our country for more than a century

Siemens has celebrated the 119th anniversary of its installation in Spain. It was on April 1, 1895 when the company of German origin opened its first office in Madrid's Carrera de San Jerónimo. Since then it has made a decisive contribution to the economic, social and technological development of our country. At the beginning of the last century, Siemens facilitated the arrival of the first tram in Barcelona. In 1910, in full industrial turmoil, a railway component factory was inaugurated in Cornellá which, 104 years later, maintains its activity with a strong export drive. These facilities would later be joined by those in Málaga (1955) or Getafe (1957), until the recent opening in 2011 of the Arganda del Rey radiopharmaceuticals factory, which produces the first compound capable of detecting Alzheimer's before it appears. the first symptoms. In addition to the manufacturing plants, Siemens has participated in emblematic projects, such as the construction of the Sant Adrià thermal power plant (1974), the lighting of the Torre Picasso (1986) or the installation of a telecommunication system in Torre Spain (1989). The beginning of the century brought with it new milestones. In 2001, Siemens was chosen to supply 32 trains for the rail corridor between Madrid and Barcelona. In 2008, it provided the necessary technology to connect six hospitals in Madrid (“Radiological Ring”) and linked the Peninsula with the Balearic Islands through an HVDC connection. Siemens has even managed to export our successes to places like Mecca or take advantage of the braking energy of trains to recharge electric cars. All these achievements have been possible thanks to Siemens' permanent commitment to innovation to create a better future, our first target.
