RS Components boosts rapid prototyping with new update to its award-winning DesignSpark PCB software

Version 7.0 adds new features suggested by the DesignSpark user community that make it more powerful than ever.

RS Components has released the latest version of DesignSpark PCB, the award-winning rapid prototyping software for electronics.

To help engineers in the design phase, DesignSpark PCB version 7.0 adds three of the most requested features, making the tool easier for designers to use: Improved part number management of the manufacturer (Enhanced Part Number), to guarantee that the bill of materials (BOM) is complete in each phase of the design; Sketch Routes, which draw approximate routings and allow algorithms to extract the best leads, speeding the time to market for new designs, both in the diagram and in the PCB design; and the additional ODB++ export format, highly demanded by the DesignSpark user community and increasingly considered by PCB manufacturing companies.

With its advanced project design and production capabilities, DesignSpark PCB has been extremely well received, with more than 350.000 users worldwide, and has become the preferred tool for collaborating and sharing open source hardware projects and designs. . This latest edition of DesignSpark PCB builds on the previous version from January 2014 which introduced simplified export functionality to DesignSpark Mechanical, Cross Probe and Custom Shortcuts. Now with the new Enhanced Part Number functionality, designers will be able to focus on innovation, research and development, instead of having to spend time manually collecting purchasing information for their bills of materials.

“Our goal has always been to enable rapid prototyping of printed circuit boards by removing barriers to innovation in electronic design, allowing our customers to unlock their full creative potential,” said Mark Cundle, Head of Technical Marketing at RS Components. "DesignSpark PCB continues to evolve thanks to the feedback and suggestions of its own users, and this new version of the software is a clear reflection of our response to their needs."

DesignSpark PCB is one of the free tools available at DesignSpark, which combined with the wide range of RS products, offer a unique innovation environment to the user.
