Farsens presents Atlas, the RFID tag with battery-free weight monitor

Wireless and battery-free load cells that allow you to monitor the weight of your assets

The Atlas from Farsens SL, San Sebastián, Spain, is a battery-free RFID sensor capable of transmitting a unique identifier and the weight data associated with said identifier to a commercial EPC C1G2 reader without the need for batteries in the sensor tag. The device includes four channels for load cells with a measurement range of 0kgf to 900kgf per channel. The tag is available with different sizes and antenna designs to adapt its operation to the required application in the 860-960 MHz band. The reading distance of the sensor tag without battery is around 1,5 meters (5 feet) and can be embedded in a wide variety of materials such as plastics or cement. There are evaluation kits.

The Atlas is used without the need for batteries at all, opening up a wide range of weight monitoring opportunities in applications where access to the measuring point is restricted. It is also a perfect solution for users who already have RFID infrastructure and wish to monitor weight without the need for wiring or maintenance costs (battery change).

The Atlas is ideal for warehouse inventory, especially for granules and liquids. In these cases, the products are stored in ton containers while the orders are less than those quantities. Those responsible come across containers with unknown amounts of product (some value between “empty container” and “full container”). Atlas tags help make inventory easy by simply reading the tag information with an RFID reader in a matter of seconds.

Farsens designs and manufactures fully passive RFID sensor solutions. Its proprietary UHF RFID chip allows Farsens to develop long-range solutions for asset tracking – via the unique identifier – and monitoring – via the sensor – without the need for batteries in the tag.
