Microchip completes its family of radiation-resistant power MOSFETs according to MIL-PRF-19500/746 and reaches 300 Krad of JANSF

Microchip completes its family of power MOSFETs

These radiation-resistant MOSFETs are designed for extreme environments and can handle a total ionization dose of 100 Krad to 300 Krad.

JANS certification is the most stringent evaluation and acceptance certification, ensuring superior levels of performance, quality, and reliability of discrete semiconductors for aerospace, defense, and spaceflight applications. Microchip Technology today announced that it has completed its family of Radiation-resistant power MOSFETs according to the specifications of the MIL-PRF-19500/746 standard in addition to obtaining JANSF certification for its 100V N-channel MOSFET JANSF2N8587U3 up to a Total Ionizing Dose (TID) of 300 Krad (Si).

Microchip's JANS series of radiation-hardened power devices with voltage ranges from 100–250 V and up to 100 Krad (Si) TID. This family is being expanded with higher levels of Radiation Hardness Assurance (RHA), starting with the JANSF2N7587U3 with 300 Krad (Si) TID. The JANS RH MOSFET is available in a variety of packages, including a plastic case using the MIL-compliant JANSR IC, making it a cost-effective power device for emerging space and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) applications. The ceramic case is hermetically sealed and has been developed for total dose and Single Event Environments (SEE).

The devices are designed to meet MIL-PRF19500/746 standards with enhanced performance, making them an excellent choice for applications requiring high-reliability components capable of withstanding the harsh environments of space and increasing power circuit reliability.

JANSF and JANSR RH power MOSFETs serve as primary switching elements in power conversion circuits such as point-of-load converters, DC/DC converters, motor drives and controls, and general switching. These power MOSFETs, with their low RDS(ON) and a low total gate charge, improve energy efficiency, generate less heat and increase switching performance compared to other similar devices on the market.
