IBM aims to integrate Keysight solutions with IBM Cloud Pak for Network Automation at IBM Center of Excellence

Keysight Technologies has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IBM, one of the world's leading providers of enterprise, artificial intelligence (AI) and hybrid cloud services, to accelerate European open radio access network (RAN) deployments .

IBM plans to use Keysight Open Radio Architect (KORA) solutions at its Open RAN Center of Excellence (CoE), established in 2021, to help mobile operators drive innovation to meet the standards defined by the O-RAN ALLIANCE. IBM wants to integrate Keysight open RAN test, emulation and measurement software-focused tools with IBM Cloud Pak for Network Automation, an AI-powered cloud telecommunications platform that makes it easy to automate network operations.

“Keysight's collaboration with IBM will help make it easier for mobile operators to accelerate the deployment of digital transformation tools that are critical to supporting industrial competitiveness in Europe,” said Kalyan Sundhar, vice president and general manager of the wireless network access business at Keysight. "The integration of Keysight's open RAN test solutions with IBM's Cloud Pak for Network Automation will help service providers automate applications that are critical to delivering a wide range of connectivity services."

Located in Madrid, Spain, the IBM CoE makes it easy for Communications Service Providers (CSPs) to deploy IBM solutions in their lab environments or on live networks to support industrial and private applications. The IBM CoE is focused on advancing digital transformation in the telecommunications industry and is supported by IBM Consulting.

“IBM hybrid cloud, automation and security solutions are used by some of the world's largest telecommunications companies to support their efforts in the next era of communications,” said Oscar Gonzalez Nogueira, Industry Partner at IBM. "The integration of Keysight's tools into the IBM Cloud Pak for Network Automation will broaden support from our CSP ecosystem to improve network and application automation."

Keysight's open RAN solutions will support IBM by demonstrating O-RAN solutions to CSPs seeking partners. These open RAN solutions will make it easier for manufacturers to verify compliance, interoperability, performance and security, achieving the deployment of fully interoperable RAN equipment. The IBM CoE plans to use Keysight's radio unit simulator, RuSIM, to validate O-RAN distributed units (O-DUs); CoreSIM, to verify the performance of open RAN equipment and Nemo Wireless Network Solutions to optimize and monitor wireless networks.

Keysight supplies end-to-end system test solutions to the open RAN ecosystem of more than 300 mobile operators, manufacturers, and research institutes. Keysight contributes deep technical expertise in fronthaul transport interfaces, power consumption optimization, and network security to drive maturity in O-RAN specifications that accelerate the adoption of open RAN architectures.
