High measurement speed is very important in the production of wireless communication components and base station measurement systems. Rohde & Schwarz has designed the new compact R&S FPS spectrum and signal analyzer especially for these types of automated measurement applications. With a height of two units (2 HU), the R&S FPS takes up half the rack space of a conventional spectrum analyzer.
The new R&S FPS spectrum and signal analyzer is available in five models depending on their frequency range, up to 4, 7, 13, 30 and 40 GHz. It offers measurement applications for all the most relevant mobile and wireless standards and can demodulate Wi-Fi signals. -Fi IEEE 802.11ac thanks to its analysis bandwidth of 160 MHz. Higher frequency models are ideal for satellite monitoring applications and component production in the aerospace industry.
Rohde & Schwarz has integrated the latest processing technology into the R&S FPS, enabling it to perform CPU-intensive tasks extremely quickly. For WCDMA signals, for example, it calculates the adjacent channel leakage ratio on all four adjacent channels (two on each side) in less than 10 ms, keeping the standard deviation of power reading below 0.05 dB – a performance without unprecedented among instruments of its class. The R&S FPS also analyzes the modulation of wireless communication signals during component production faster than any other piece of equipment on the market while maintaining constant accuracy across the entire frequency range.
The R&S FPS also offers functions for efficient programming of measurement sequences. The R&S FPS can be supplemented with a signal generator such as the R&S SGS100A. The two pieces of equipment together can be used as a mini system for measurement applications that require a fast interaction between the signal generator and the spectrum analyzer, as occurs in the measurements of mobile phone power amplifiers.
Space requirements are also important in large measurement systems that integrate several instruments.
For this reason, Rohde & Schwarz has designed the R&S FPS as a compact device that is 2 units high and without a display. The user manages the equipment through the computer of the measurement system or remotely through the network.
A small screen on the front of the device displays the most relevant information, such as the IP address being used.
