Fluke Announces World's First CAT III 500V Solar Power Clamp Meters

clamp meters

The new clamp meter performs solar tests at 1500 V and has the highest safety category at this voltage and offers greater ease of use.

Fluke today announced a new clamp meter designed to measure voltages in solar installations to the new 1500V standard. It offers high safety specifications and is easy to use in high-density solar combiner boxes. The Fluke 393 y 393 FC are the world's first CAT III / 1500 V DC true-rms solar clamp meters, in accordance with the latest safety standard for clamp meters IEC/EN 61010-2-032:2019.

The clamp meter is capable of measuring up to 1500 Vdc, while conventional instruments are limited to 1000 Vdc.

For all these reasons, the Fluke 393 is the ideal choice for the installation and maintenance of large commercial and industrial solar parks. With the increasing importance of solar power generation in meeting the demand for renewable energy, the new clamp meter is a great addition to the Fluke range of instruments for solar applications. Some of them are multimeters with insulation measurement Fluke 1577/1587 or the multimeters with IP67 protection Fluke 87V MAX.

Enhanced Security

A high level of safety for users is guaranteed thanks to its CAT III 1500 V insulation. This solar current clamp is the only one that offers this level of protection for technicians and engineers of solar installations. The instrument's insulated test leads are CAT III 1500 V, while the instruments offer CAT IV 600 Vac protection.

The instrument's IP54 protection makes the Fluke 393 Clamp Meter suitable for testing solar installations in various types of climates and weather conditions, thus protecting the instrument from the ingress of dust and rain.

Ease of use

Thanks to its ability to measure quickly, easily and accurately, maintenance technicians will not have to interrupt energy production at solar installations. The challenge they must face are the solar combiner boxes, which are usually small and high density, which makes it difficult to connect the instruments to take measurements. The Fluke 393 meets this challenge with a jaw that is 25% thinner than previous Fluke clamp meters, making it quick and easy to take measurements in tight spaces.

The vise is designed to be durable, strong and reliable, and meets stringent CAT III creepage and clearance requirements.

The 393 FC is Fluke Connect compatible, saving you from writing notes by hand. Fluke Connect allows maintenance technicians to record values and share them with their team. Up to 65.000 data points can be logged and uploaded.

In addition to voltage and current measurements, the new clamp meter is capable of measuring DC power and recording the data to improve work efficiency.

Productivity is enhanced with a beep signal that indicates correct polarity of the PV units, as well as a continuity indication for easy continuity testing in low-light environments. Additionally, these instruments feature a dual-line display for simultaneous measurements.

Fluke's Hans-Dieter Schuessele says: “The new 393 and 393 FC are the world's first solar clamp meters to offer CAT III 1500V safety, thus setting a new standard for testing solar installations. They are designed to be extremely safe and easy to use, and they are a great help to installers and maintenance personnel, since they allow them to activate solar parks quickly and maintain the production of renewable energy.”
